LASM is the only art and science museum in the region and is one of only a handful of art and science museums in the country

LASM's galleries feature changing fine art exhibitions, interactive spaces for children, the Ancient Egypt Gallery with a Ptolemaic-era mummy and other artifacts, and selections from the museum's 4,000-object permanent collection.

For over 50 years, LASM has maintained accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest standard and held by less than 10% of museums nationwide.

The museum offers unique, curriculum-aligned educational programming, including hands-on classes, guided tours, and planetarium shows, to school audiences from pre-K through 12th grade; many of these programs are provided to students free-of-charge through sponsorship programs.

LASM’s mission is to enhance the understanding and appreciation of art and science for general audiences and students by presenting unique, educational and entertaining experiences that encourage discovery, inspire creativity, and foster the pursuit of knowledge.
